Molly Alcott didn’t expect to open her mailbox one summer morning and find an old letter stuffed between bills and a supermarket flyer. Penned in familiar handwriting, dated over fifteen years ago, the letter was written to Molly after her first date with the man she’ll never forget.
Week after week, new letters appear. Each marks an event in the history of their epic love affair. Each heals a wound. Each holds the confession of the man who still owns Molly’s heart. The letters are full of promise, hope and love, but truth be told, Molly wishes she could unread them all. Because the man who wrote these letters is not the one sending them.

On the Rocks by Kandi Steiner
Release Date: June 13, 2019
On the Rocks, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Kandi Steiner.
Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.
That’s what Mama told me when I was a kid, kicking his pew in church and giggling at the games we’d play. It’s what the town said when his father died and the Becker brothers went wild.
And it’s on repeat in my mind the day I walk into the whiskey distillery where he works to buy a wedding gift for my fiancé.
He’s trouble.
Dirty, sweaty, rude trouble.
No matter how many times I repeat it, I can’t escape Noah in our small Tennessee town. And the more I run into him, the more he infuriates me. Because he sees what no one else does.
He sees me—the real me.
The me I’m not sure I’m allowed to be.
I’m Ruby Grace Barnett, the mayor’s daughter. Soon to be a politician’s wife, just like Mama and Daddy always wanted. Soon to fulfill my family’s legacy, just like I always knew I would.
Until the boy everyone warned me about makes me question everything, like whether the wedding I’m planning is one I even want.
Everyone said Noah Becker was nothing but trouble.
If only I had listened.
A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

Excerpt:
I watched from the sidelines as Betty schooled Noah on the final dance scene from the classic movie — and one of her favorites. Noah, bless his heart, took it in stride. He held her hands, spun her gently, even went under water completely to give Betty some sort of “lift” that made her feel like Jennifer Grey. That was when her smile was the largest — her eyes closed, face cast upward, arms out in the same iconic flight stance that the actress had done. If I wasn’t laughing so hard, I might have cried at the sentiment. After a dozen more run throughs, Betty called for a break, and the two of them swam up to the side of the pool where I sat. Betty took the lemonade I offered her, sipping and hollering across the pool at Mr. Buchanan — who was seated under the umbrellas. Noah rested his arms on the concrete edge, crossing them and resting his head on his forearm before he peered up at me through lashes still dripping with water. His eyes were an endless blue, the light from the pool reflecting off them like a tropical dream. “Enjoying your entertainment this afternoon, Miss. Barnett?” I bit my lip against a smile. “Very much so, Mr. Becker. I never knew you were such a great dancer.” “Oh, you should see me on the actual dance floor. I can two step and waltz and cha cha with the best of them. And don’t even get me started on what happens when ‘Watermelon Crawl’ comes on.” “I’m sure it’s quite entertaining,” I mused, still dangling my feet in the cool water. “When do I get to see your dance moves?” I barked out a laugh at that. “Um, that would be approximately… never.” “Never?” he asked, popping his head up off his arms with a look of injustice. “But you’ve seen all my moves, now. I show you mine, you show me yours. Isn’t that the deal?” “I never agreed to that.” He narrowed his eyes, running his forefinger and thumb over the stubble on his chin before he nodded. “I see…” Then, a wicked gleam came over those blue steel eyes, and before I could so much as scream, his hand wrapped around my wrist, tugging forward until I was off the ledge and under water. I popped up instantly, not even able to open my eyes against the chlorine yet before I was swinging at him. “Noah!” He laughed, catching my advances easily and pulling me into him. I blinked several times, shaking the drops from my eyes before I glared up at him. “You jerk. Mama’s going to kill me for ruining my hair.” “Mama will live,” he said, and then one arm wrapped around my waist, the other taking my hand in a leading position. “Now, let’s dance, little lady.” With one pull of my hand and push of my hip, I spun away from him, reeling back in like a yo-yo and falling in line with his steps before I realized what was happening. Surprise ripped through me, brows shooting up to my hairline as he somehow managed to smoothly twirl me around that metaphorical dance floor even with water hitting us waist deep. My feet felt sluggish, the moves slower than if we were in boots on a hardwood floor, but somehow, that made it even more fun. I laughed and laughed as he danced me around — until he had the bright idea to flip me like a swing dancer. I emerged from the water beating on his chest again, which just made him laugh harder. And when we were breathless, Noah tugged me to the side of the pool again. “Thank you for the dance,” he said, both of us still breathing heavily as he wrapped his strong, rugged hands around my waist. For a moment, he just held them there, the rough pad of his thumbs smoothing over my exposed hip bones. My smile fell, chest still heaving as my eyes slipped to his lips. I didn’t know why I looked at them. I didn’t know why I couldn’t look away. Noah swallowed, tightening his grip on my hips before he lowered in the water a little and helped push me back up onto the edge of the pool where I’d been seated before. Once I was steady, he released his hold on me, backing away with a distant look in his eyes that I couldn’t decipher before he tore them from me and looked at Betty, instead.
About Kandi:
Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

His broad shoulders and short cropped hair made him look a little dangerous and a whole lot capable. Of many things.
“What’s going on in that head of yours, Red?” He tugged on a lock of her hair and gave her a smile that shot fireworks through her blood.
“I was just thinking that I don’t want to waste the day or two I have here thinking about my brother, my dad, or anything else.”
Liam stepped closer. “Seems like you could use a little break from them.”
She laughed at his dead-on assessment. “How is it that you hardly know me and you see things other people don’t?”
In her professional life, everyone had the utmost respect for her father and brother. The dynamic duo of the fitness center world. Never mind the long days and nights and hours that Isla spent making things come together. Things like the deal with Conroy Hotels. Her father’s gyms were going to be a part of ten Conroy properties starting in the new year. Thanks to Isla. Only, no one had thanked her, except Jonathan Conroy, who she’d struck the deal with. He’d been gracious and kind. A great negotiator. He’d treated her as an equal.
“Maybe it’s because I’m looking so close,” he said, his voice lowering. Had she moved? Did he? She wasn’t sure, but the front of each of their bodies was touching, and despite the chill in the air, Isla’s skin warmed beneath her layers.
“Hmm. You are looking quite close,” she said, not intending for her voice to come out so husky.
Liam ran his thumb over her cheek, then back, down over her lower lip. Her knees went loose and she pressed her hand to his chest. It was hard and solid like the brick wall at her back. But so much hotter. With his jacket open, she pressed her hand to his soft shirt and felt the sleek muscle beneath.
“I like what I see,” he said, his face coming closer.
“Me too,” she whispered. A little too much. Could she blame her overtaxed emotions? Probably not. There was something about Liam.
The first touch of his lips pushed thoughts of anything other than him, of getting closer, out of her brain. One of his hands threaded through her hair, anchoring her where he wanted so he could slant his mouth over hers, teasing and testing, before diving all the way in.
Isla’s fingers fisted in his shirt, curling the material in her palm as she arched to get closer, to take more. Liam gentled the kiss, slowing it down before he leaned back, enough so he could speak but so they were still sharing the same air, their breath mingling and intertwining sort of like their bodies.
“Wow,” he whispered, pressing his brow to hers.
“Yeah. Wow.” Two or three days of doing exactly that didn’t seem like nearly enough.
Liam’s hands ran down her arms, back up, over her shoulders, and then he pulled her close and wrapped his around her, hugging her tight and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. Isla sank in. If she could only have a couple days with him, she was going to enjoy every second of it. Which meant blocking out all of the questions and the uncertainty.
When he pulled back, Liam’s eyes were a mix of desire and sweetness. “You like Johnny Cash?”
Isla laughed at the quick change of subject. “The Man in Black? Sure.”
“I was hoping you’d say that,” he said, taking her hand again. “Come on.”
I loved small town romances and I found this one to be really sweet. It had all the must haves in a romance. The cover didn't match the description of the book but that's totally okay. I still found it to be a interesting read and I would read another book by this author. The language wasn't over the top and excessive. If you want a quick and light read...this is a good book for a weekend getaway.

Royal St. James got her name when she was born. Not because her mother loved her royally, but because Royal was a giant pain in the ass. She’s spent her entire life fighting to live, and the last thing she needs is to deal with some pretty-boy police officer who wouldn’t know a hardship if it came up and bit him in the…you know.

It was a complete coincidence that he ends up going undercover and meeting Royal St. James. It was just one day, a single moment in time. All routine.
Just do the buy, make the bust, and get out.
But Royal St. James, aptly named, screws everything up. Royally.
All of a sudden, he has a decision to make: blow his cover and save the girl, or save himself.
Of course, he does the most stupid thing possible.
By saving the girl who most assuredly did not want to be saved.

Keys To My Heart A companion novel to Keys To My Cuffs Book 4 in The Heroes of The Dixie Wardens MC series. “What are you doing?” I asked the man I was following. He was sexy. Very, very sexy. So sexy, in fact, that I wanted to pull the car over and invite the beast into my car. Then I was reminded why I couldn’t do that when a squeal from the backseat had me turning around. “I told you not to touch your sister with that god**** jock strap, Justice!” I yelled at my son. “How many times do I have to tell you this? Do it again, and I’ll pull this car over and let your sister beat the shit out of you.” Justice stared at me like I’d grown a second head. “I didn’t mean to, Ma.” Justice said. His voice squeaked, and I nearly laughed. Justice was sixteen going on forty, and he had the cutest squeaky voice that made me want to pinch his cheeks. “Yeah,” I said sarcastically. “I’m pretty fucking sure that you accidentally pulled that jock out of your gym bag and hit her with it. Just like I accidentally fell on your father’s di…” “Mom!” Glory yelled as she threw her hands over her ears. “We don’t want to hear about you and dad doing it.” I grinned at my daughter. “You don’t?” I asked. “Do you need me to give you the sex talk again, because I so totally will!” Both of my teenagers silenced, and I grinned inwardly as I turned my eyes back to the sexy man. The sexy man that wasn’t waiting for me to finish fighting with my kids. In fact, he was all the way up the street, his t-shirt tucked into the back of his shorts. A fine sheen of sweat covered his entire body, and damn but what a fine body he had. He was running pretty fast, meaning I had to speed up to catch him. The motor roared to life, and the man looked back at me with a challenge in his eyes. I grinned as he started to run faster, and pressed the gas pedal down just a little bit more. The vehicle my husband bought me just last month jolted forward, and I felt the power of the truck surrounding me. The man in front of me took off, cutting across Mrs. Johnson’s yard, over Mr. Grace’s azalea bushes, and disappeared into the back yard of Mr. Calloway. I sped through the empty streets, going further and further down the long road and hooked a left on the street that my house was on. I’d just turned on my blinker to pull into the driveway when the man burst out of the bushes and headed for the back of the house. I hit the garage door opener and smiled when it started to go up. Letting the kids fend for themselves, I bolted out of the vehicle, knowing for certain my kids would lock it up and shut off the engine for me, and slid on my knees under the garage door that got stuck halfway like it’d been known to do lately. My husband was a lazy bastard and was supposed to fix it this afternoon, but obviously running was more important than me getting inside the house without scraping my knees up. I pushed into the utility room door and sprinted through the kitchen. Vaulting over Range, our German Shepherd who’d sat up when he heard the utility room door open, I hurried down the hallway to my room. The moment I hit our bedroom I started stripping off my clothes. The moment my bra was off, the sweaty man I’d been chasing grabbed me from behind and slammed me down onto the bed. My pants were the first thing to go, followed shortly by my panties. Then suddenly he was gone. I tried to turn over, and had every intention of doing so, but the moment I tried to flip a resounding smack filled the room, followed shortly by the explosion of pain on my backside. “Don’t move,” he said. I got up on my knees, completely ignoring the fool man, and was about to come up to my hands when another smack filled the room. “You mother fucker.” I growled, rolling over. The man backed up and slammed my bedroom door closed, then locked it for good measure. “The kids’ll hear us.” I said. “They’ll hate it.” “Those fuckers can wear their headphones,” he said, dropping down onto the bed between my splayed thighs. I licked my lips as I let my eyes travel down the lovely man’s body. “Didn’t I see you running this morning?” I asked him. “Yes,” he said, dropping a kiss to my navel. I gasped as his tongue darted out and licked a line up my belly to my breast. He teased his lips around my nipple, then roughly sucked the entire bud into his mouth. I gasped and grabbed onto his hair, my fingers digging into his wet locks. “Oh, God.” I growled. “I need you to hurry up and get inside of me.” Those dark eyes of his ate me up as he crawled between my legs, letting his huge cock rest at the entrance to my sex. “What would your police officer husband think, Channing?” He asked. I roughly yanked his hair and growled at him. “Hurry up and fuck me already, Officer.” His hard cock slammed into me, and I closed my eyes as the feeling of rightness burst through my veins. “Yes, ma’am.” *** The hot steam of the shower poured over my back as I washed the scent of our combined releases off my skin. “You’re a little hard on the kids, you know.” Loki said long minutes later as his still hard cock pressed into my backside. I looked at the love of my life over my shoulder. “They need to stop fighting.” I growled. “And they need to know where sex gets you.” Loki’s white smile flashed before he pressed his lips to the back of my neck. “Satisfied.” Loki said as he turned the shower off and reached behind him to grab my bath towel. Once it was wrapped around my shoulders, he grabbed his own and pushed out of the shower. Close on his heels, I watched as he put his underwear on, still wet, as he had for the last seventeen years of our marriage. “I’m not mean.” I told my husband as I dropped the towel and reached for my camisole. “I’m upset that they both think it’s alright to get in fights at school.” The next thing to go on was my pajama pants as I opened the door to our bedroom and made my way to the laundry room with a pile full of clothes I’d picked up off the floor on my way out of the room. Loki followed at my heels, still complaining about my harsh punishment. “They don’t need to be grounded for getting into a fight about two dumbasses thinking it’s alright to stomp on the American flag.” Loki persisted as he followed closely at my heels. I dropped the clothes on the floor and reached for the nearest empty basket, bending over and yanking the dryer door open before pulling out all of the clothes that’d been dry for a day and a half. There was no point in turning them back on. I wouldn’t remember they were done until it was time to turn them on again, so I did what I always did. Pulled them out, and left them in the basket for Glory to fold when I was upset with her. Switching over to the washer, I got all the clothes out and tossed them into the dryer. “No,” I agreed. “Those kids shouldn’t have stomped on the flag. However, my kids were raised not to fight at school. They’re punishment is staying.” Loki crossed his arms over his chest as he glared. I bent into the washer and got the bullets out of the bottom of the washing machine, and added them into a basket for Loki to take when it got too full to add anymore. I’d been doing the bullet in the washing machine routine for a long time as well. It came as second nature to take them out now instead of waiting for them to click and clink in the dryer. I normally tried to check his pockets for any strays, but they always got past me. It was as if all of Loki’s pockets had hidden places for bullets to hide, and they only fell out in the washing machine after you’d already run the load. “The kids were shitting on the flag.” Loki said. “I didn’t fight for their right to do that. I fought for their right to…” I held up my hand. “I realize that you feel strongly about this,” I said. “But I’m not budging. I had to talk two coaches out of kicking both of them off their prospective teams today, had to speak to the kids’ mothers, and had my face nearly slapped.” Loki’s back went straight. “Mom.” I turned to find Glory and Justice at the laundry room door, staring at me with varying degrees of concern on their faces. “What?” Loki snapped. Glory grimaced before continuing. “We’re sorry.” My lips thinned. “We won’t fight again.” Justice promised. I sighed. “Y’all could’ve gotten hurt. You both know better than to act like that.” I chided them again. Because I fucking could. Justice looked contrite. Glory, however, looked as if she’d only been re-riled. “What?” I asked. “The girl, Toya, she said that dad was a cracker pig and deserved to be shot in the back of the head.” Glory spat. My back went straight this time. “She what?” *** “Ma’am.” The principal said that afternoon. “This is out of line.” “No.” I snarled. “What’s out of line is you allowing kids to persist in thinking that it’s okay to kill cops. One of your students said some pretty disgusting things yesterday about my husband, and I will not sit by while they continue to go to school as if they weren’t assholes yesterday while my kids get detention. Yesterday I wasn’t aware of all the facts, but now that I am, we’ll be fixing this situation immediately or I’ll be raising so much hell you’ll never know what hit you.” The principal looked at me, an offended expression on her face. “Ma’am.” The principal tried. I shook my head and held up one finger. “I want them out now. Or the next time you hear from me it’ll be by way of my lawyer.” The principal looked pissed, but I could tell she was serious. “And I know damn well you can pull up the camera feed,” I said as I gathered my purse. “Don’t pull this anymore, or I’ll have to involve more people than you know how to deal with.” With that parting comment, I marched straight out the door and to my new truck, driving it straight to the police station. The moment my feet touched down in the bullpen, my eyes automatically started scanning for Loki. I spotted him at the water cooler with Trance. His eyes came up, and they seemed to light with an inner fire that was only for me. I marched toward him, my eyes on fire for him as well. But not for the same reason. I was still pissed. So pissed off that I wanted to kill someone. Since it was a higher murder charge to kill a minor, I chose to bitch to my husband, because I knew he would calm me down before I went searching for parents. “What are you doing here?” Loki asked as he pulled me into his side. I went willingly and buried my face into Loki’s chest. “I’m so mad.” Loki’s chest started to shake. “What?” I snapped, tilting my head back to look at him. “Nothing.” I glared until he spoke to me. “I just like it, is all.” “Like what?” I asked. “I like that you’re willing to kick ass for me.” I grinned. “Damn straight I’ll kick ass for you.” I said. “It’s Channing and Loki against the mother fuckin’ world!” I heard a deep masculine chuckle precede Trance’s departure, and grinned. Loki’s mouth dropped down to mine. “I love you, Channing.” I circled my finger around the dog tags Loki still wore. “I love you, too, Officer.” via Blogger http://bit.ly/2IK6Hm5 June 14, 2019 at 08:00AM

Nothing would provoke my ex more than to see me moving on with the one guy he hates most, so that’s exactly what I plan to do.
The only hitch in my brilliant scheme is Wick himself. He’s just gotta be all love-not-war and peace-is-the-only-way. He’s more concerned about helping me heal than seeking my sweet revenge.
And what the hell is it about his soothihg presence and yummy looks that calls to me until I forget how much pain I’m in? He’s making it awfully hard to use and abuse him for my malicious means. The damn guy is making me fall for him.
“You guys are totally off your rockers. I am not having sex with anyone just to get back at Topher. To me, that’d be like drinking poison and expecting him to die from it.”
Bentley gasped, affronted, and pressed a hand to her chest. “Sex isn’t poison.”
I rolled my eyes because SHE hadn’t been cheated on recently.
“Seriously,” Teagan went on. “Sex can be good for you. It’s actually the number one reliever in vaginal atrophy.”
I blinked. “In…what?”
“Inflammation, dryness, and thinning of the vaginal walls.”
“Huh?” I furrowed my brow, wondering how I’d landed myself in a sex-education class.
“You must massage the tissue down there, exercise it regularly and get the blood flowing so it remains healthy and elastic. Otherwise, it’s going to dry out like an unused rubber band and crumble apart.” She balled her hand into a fist as if wadding up something. “Just a brittle piece of hopelessness.”
Ouch.
Why did I suddenly want to wince and protectively cover my hoo-ha with both of my hands? Seriously, I’d just found an old rubber band last week. It had dried up and fallen to pieces as soon as I had picked it up.
Lord, I didn’t want my vagina to crumble apart like that.
But then Bella—bless her soul—rolled her eyes and muttered, “Oh, whatever. She doesn’t need a man to get the blood flowing down there. My faithful BOB has kept me more satisfied and elasticized than any human douche ever could.”
Teagan merely shrugged. “It’s more fun with a real penis though. Just saying.”
“Wow,” Lucy murmured, shaking her head. “JB must have some kind of magical cock to make you talk this way because, before him, you were all like, eww, men are so overrated. Sex is gross. Keep it away from me.”
Lifting her chin, Teagan sniffed proudly and rubbed her swollen belly. “He does. It even sparkles in the sunlight.”
“Ack,” I cried, covering my ears with my hands. “It is so impossible to think of JB that way. He’s like a cousin to me, T.”
“You know, you don’t actually have to have sex with anyone,” Bentley spoke up, making me glance at her in confusion. “You just have to make Topher believe you did.”
“Or…” Bella countered. “As much of a showboat as Topher is, the best way to get back at him would be to just move on and be happy. I have a feeling him seeing you moving on without him might drive him crazier than anything.”

HOSTED BY:
I've missed Linda Kage's books and this is the reason why... this was an exceedingly good book!! I loved the characters, the premise, and the storyline. The storytelling was amazing and it brought me back to the early days of The Forbidden Men Series. I loved that series so much that I had a really high bar set for this book and I went in thinking nothing would meet those expectations, but sometimes you have to adjust your thinking. This was an excellent book that you'll need to add to your summer reading list!!

I’m kind of a lady, but definitely more of a weirdo.
Hearing the woman at the table behind him say that to her friend should’ve turned Logan Gibbs off.
It doesn’t. In all honesty, it only makes him listen harder.
He’s had enough weird in his life to last a lifetime. The last thing his complicated life needs is a woman in it who has no clue what color you get when you mix yellow and blue together.
Yet, her obvious blonde moments aren’t enough to deter him. Nor is her lack of finger-painting skills.
I’m a cop, not a miracle worker.
Hearing the man in the group behind her say that should’ve had Katy Roberts running away as fast as her feet would carry her. Katy’s father’s a cop, and it’s hard enough to live her life with Daddy trying to dictate her every move. She needs another cop in her life like she needs yet another thing to go wrong.
To add onto that, she can’t find a job, has no love life to speak of, and has to be the oldest known virgin in Kilgore, Texas.
Yet, when she sees his painting—a painting that resembles a piece of the male anatomy more than the lighthouse they were supposed to be painting—she knows that she has to give him a chance.
The very last thing the two of them expect is for her father and his boss to force them to marry after an eensy-weensy accident. An accident that, surprisingly, both of them want.
AVAILABLE NOW
I really loved the start of this new series to be perfectly honest!!! If all the books in this series are like this one then I will definitely be reading them. The characters kind of reminded me of the old Boomtown/KPD days and it might be because this was Luke's daughter, but I was really digging hearing about her again. The fact that LLV is doing all the kids and putting them into the books - I totally am on board with that. I loved Gibbs and it may have been the name...I love all men named Gibbs. That was a good name choice. Katy was a delightful character and I loved her and Gibbs together. The way he handled her father was awesome. This book just gave me all the feels.

Grey's next romantic comedy, COLDHEARTED BOSS, is available now - be sure to grab your copy today!About COLDHEARTED BOSS
I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.
Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.
Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:
I know my boss.
Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.
Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.
He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.
It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.
Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.
A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.
My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.
My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

Title: In the Crossfire
Series: A Circle of Justice Novel
Author: LP Dover
Genre: Romance Suspense/Mafia Romance
Lies.
Betrayal.
Murder.
I’ve gotten away with it all, but that won’t last forever.
I’m Bryce Chandler, FBI agent and member of the Circle of Justice, a covert organization that metes out retribution to those who’ve escaped the system without punishment. For the last year I’ve been deep undercover, doing unspeakable things to secure my place in the mafia world. These days I barely recognize the man in the mirror, but Anthony Corsino is finally in my crosshairs.
He’s entrusted me with the one thing he loves most—his daughter, Layla. She was just another detail of the mission, until she was suddenly so much more. I never meant to fall for the enemy, but I couldn’t resist. I’m in too deep. My brothers are determined to get me out, but I can’t let them interfere. It’s my job to put down the target. However, when I do, I’ll lose the only woman I’ve ever loved and the only good thing left in my life. If I don’t, I’ll lose myself.
Rushing out of the media room, I ran through the foyer and up the stairs to Layla’s room. I knocked hard on the door and listened. There was no sound or movement that I could hear. “Layla, open the door.” Still, there was nothing. When I opened the door, her closet was open, and it’d been cleaned out, along with her dresser. “Motherfucker,” I huffed. “Layla!”
The sound of a door slammed downstairs, so I took off out of her room. How the hell could I not see her on the cameras? I ran down the stairs and out the patio door. There were a line of trees blocking my sight of the driveway, but I could see the top edge of one of the open garage doors. As I drew closer, I could see her tossing her luggage in the back of a silver SUV. She’d changed out of her green sundress from earlier into a pair of jeans and a black T-shirt.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I called out as I stepped away from the trees. Layla jerked around, eyes blazing like fire as she grabbed the gun at her waistband and pointed it straight at me. I stopped and held up my hands. “Whoa. What the hell are you doing?”
“I’m leaving. And if you try to stop me, I’ll blow off your balls.”
Glancing down at her gun, I couldn’t help but notice how perfect her stance was. She looked like she knew what she was doing. “I don’t doubt it,” I replied cautiously. “Where’d you get the gun?”
Her eyes narrowed, but she kept the gun pointed at me. “My uncle.”
Still holding my hands in the air, I slowly took a step forward. “Did he teach you how to shoot as well?”
The muscles in her jaw tightened. “Yes. Believe it or not, I’m not the helpless princess everyone thinks I am.”
“I never said you were, Layla.” I nodded at the video camera just above the garage door. “How did you get out here without me seeing you?”
She lifted her chin, her lips tilting up in an evil grin. “You’re not the only one who knows how to manipulate a camera. How else was I supposed to sneak out as a teenager?”
Now I was impressed. “Guess we all have our secrets. Can anyone see us right now?”
She shook her head. “No.” I took another step closer, and her body tensed. “Dammit, Bryce, don’t test me. I already know my father told you to stop me. No matter what he says or what you do, I am going to get out of here.”
“And go where?” I asked. “To the city to find out the answers?”
“If that’s what it takes. I’m not returning until he tells me the truth.”
There was nothing but sheer determination in her eyes. The woman was so goddamned stubborn she’d get herself killed in the process. We were only about six feet apart, with the gun still pointed at my chest. There was only one thing left to do. I wasn’t about to underestimate her.
“What if I told you what you want to know?” I said, hoping she could see the truth in my eyes.
Her lips pursed. “Why should I believe you?”
“Because you said it yourself—you’re not going to stop until you find out the answers. This is the only way to keep you safe.” It was also the way to test her. I had to know how far her loyalty went with her father. It might be what I had to do to finish my mission. Anthony would surely try to come after me, but he’d have a hell of a time trying to find me.

Excerpt:
“Hollis?”
I startle at the male voice calling my name. When I turn, I find a guy about my height wearing a button-down shirt beneath a sport coat and a pair of pressed slacks. He regards me with a mixture of surprise and recognition while I have no idea who the hell he is. He steps closer with a smile.
“Sorry to catch you off guard,” he apologizes and holds out his hand to me. “Grant Stevenson.”
I shake his hand warily. “Hollis Barnes.” I pause before adding, “But somehow, you already knew that.”
He grins, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t detect any douchebag vibes. “I recognized you from one of the photos Magnolia has in her room of the two of you.”
It takes all my control to suppress the jolt that zigzags through me at his words. She still keeps a photo of us?
His eyes crinkle at the corners, and he lifts his chin to gesture to me. “Although I have to be honest, the ink and beard initially threw me off.”
A surprised laugh escapes me, and I slide my hands into my pockets.
Grant steps closer and glances around before lowering his voice. “I’m actually glad you’re here. I know you and Magnolia haven’t seen one another in a while, but you’re her oldest friend…”
Oldest friend. Not best friend. I don’t miss the phrasing. Although I don’t feel it’s intentional, it cuts deep just the same.
“I’m nervous as hell, and I’m hopin’ you can tell me if she’d like this.”
It takes me a moment to realize what he’s pulled out of his pocket.
A velvet ring box and a packet of Pop Rocks.
F***, f***, f***.
I resist the urge to rub at the center of my chest, where searing pain radiates.
He flicks open the box to reveal a ring with a large diamond that’s fancy as hell. Something Mrs. Barton would love and deem appropriate. But Magnolia? Hell no.
“Her mom helped me pick it out.”
Exactly.
“And I know she loves Pop Rocks since she always has a pack.”
Not the strawberry flavor.
But he’s trying. I can see the nervousness in his expression. The hope. The excitement.
I can’t crush this guy. He’s exactly what her parents have always wanted for her. The kind of guy who doesn’t get his hands dirty. The one with money and connections.
The one who can give her the future her parents expect her to have. The one who won’t come home with rough hands, callused to hell and back from working on a project that’s for a high-end client or due to be auctioned off to a car collector with more money than they know what to do with.
The man who wears button-downs like they’re second skin. Designer clothes.
So caught up in my thoughts, I don’t immediately realize that he’s pocketed the items and is gazing in another direction. When I turn and follow his focus, catching sight of her weaving through the crowd, I take advantage of the moment and let my eyes drink her in. She’s…so g**damn beautiful.
Her long blond hair spills down her back, and even beneath the shapeless graduation gown, her sleek, tanned legs peek out from the bottom hem, her heels accentuating her toned calf muscles.
When she catches sight of Grant, her entire face lights up, and…go**ammit.
I can’t do this. This was a f***ing mistake. It’s like someone’s performing open heart surgery and just cracked my chest open without anesthesia.
